You might have thought magicians appear only in circuses or fairy tales. But what if a magician were living among us, and in an ordinary neighbourhood?
And he was not just any magician! His name was Peter, he could do magic like no one else, and he was only eight years old. Well, he had only learnt one trick, but he knew it perfectly.
Whatever it was something Pete had, got, or was lent to him, he managed to lose it so no one could ever find it.
Pete’s friends and family often asked him where he put things, but the truth was that he himself had no idea where they had gone. Like I said, it had to be magic.
His mother kept asking him, “Pete, how could you have lost the bag with all the groceries I asked you to bring when you went shopping? And how could you have come home from school without your school bag?”
“Probably magic,” Pete shrugged his shoulders, going to play with his toy trains. Nothing bothered him at all.
His mother sighed, for at least the tenth time that week, and it was only Tuesday. She was afraid that if this continued, Pete would soon neglect to say hello or, on another day, he would forget himself completely.
But Pete didn’t mind and continued showing off his magic to anyone he met. It even got to the point where no one at school wanted to lend him a pen because it would disappear from his hand by the end of the lesson.
Pete hardly did it on purpose, and sometimes he wished there was something he could do about his absent-mindedness. He did not enjoy not having anything lent to him. He would have liked…
