“How was your day, everyone?” one thought asked that evening, and that’s when the hubbub began.

“Ahhh,” said a second thought, “today was a really lovely day.”

“Yeah, and the best bit was the game of tag,” announced a third joyfully.

“Hey, which of you knows what Gran is doing right now…?” asked a fourth.

“Maybe she’s baking a cake, and when she comes to see us tomorrow we’ll get to eat it. Yum!”

“Ooh, Gran’s cakes are the best ever, we all know that!” added two more.

“La, la, la, who cares about Gran? I just wanted some more time to jump on that new trampoline. It’s ages to wait until the morning, I can’t wait that long, I’ll go crazy,” complained a sporty thought.

“When I grow up, I want to join the circus. Then I could just have fun all day and not have to do anything else,” another joined in proudly.

It’s in our nature to replace old things with new things – things that are nicer and more modern. An old Motor Coach learned that the hard way. He couldn’t keep up with the demand of the modern times and was replaced with better, much faster high-speed trains. After long years of loyal service, the Motor Coach ended up in a cold, dark corner of a depot, like a useless old piece of rusty metal. Nowadays, it can only think back to those happy times when it used to take families with kids on their trips up to the mountains. Or could there still be someone who cares about the old train’s fate? You’ll find out in this story.

Even old things can still serve us. One just has to take good care of them. One day the traffic light decided not to obey regulations at all and work randomly. He was bored of just showing the same colours in the same order. Moreover, he was sad because of being abandoned and rusty, especially when he saw how colourful the world around him truly was.
