When the doorbell rang, Pete was over the moon. It was Uncle Josh, and not only that – he was carrying a package under his arm!
“What’s that?” Pete asked his uncle impatiently.
Uncle Josh was fab. He wasn’t boring like other grown-ups. He did dinosaur impressions, showed Pete how to ride a bike without holding on, and let him eat hot dogs without the bun. Mum claimed it was because Josh didn’t have kids of his own yet, but Pete didn’t think so. His uncle was just super cool.
“Have a guess, buddy,” uncle Josh teased.
What could be small enough to fit into such a small, flat parcel? A phone? Probably not. Pete would get one when he turned twelve, and that was still a long way off. Maybe some kind of detective book? Or a comic? That must be it! He eagerly tore open the wrapping paper.
Now, you might be wondering whether Pete’s uncle brought him presents all the time? He didn’t. Pete was getting his birthday present, even though it wasn’t his birthday yet. Pretty cool, huh? It was all because Uncle Josh was about to go travelling in Asia. He said he was going to catch tigers by their tails, but Dad didn’t believe him. Anyhow, no matter what he was really going to do there, he was going to miss Pete’s party, so he had stopped by so that he could at least give him his present.
