Annie and Maggie are two little twin sisters. Actually, they’re not all that little anymore – they can already walk and talk. And most of all, they love exploring the world.
This morning, when Annie and Maggie woke up, it was very cold outside.
Maggie was the first to open her eyes. She sat up in her bed, stretched out her arms above her head and yawned a big, happy yawn. And then something caught her eye.
“What’s that?” she wondered.
Outside the window, there was a flurry of white flakes.
“Annie, wake up! Someone’s sprinkling sugar on the garden!” she shouted.
“Buns with sugar sprinkles? Yum,” murmured Annie, who was still in the middle of a dream.
“Not buns! The sugar is on the window,” Maggie corrected her sister, who still showed no signs of waking.
Eventually, Annie half opened one eye.
“Sugar on the window? Is that some kind of cake?” she asked, slowly opening the second eye too. And when she saw the white window ledge, she squealed and jumped up to get a closer look. “Wow, it’s true! There’s sugar everywhere. Lots of sugar!”
The two sisters gazed at the white garden outside.
“I had a dream in the night that I was in a sugar kingdom and there were cakes and buns with icing and sprinkles all over the place. And look, it came true!” said Annie, delighted.
“Let’s go outside and collect some to put on a cake for daddy,” suggested Maggie.
Hand in hand, they ran to the door of their room. As they got there, they met their dad on his way in, greeting them with a warm smile.
“Good morning, girls,” he said, “I hope you slept well.”
