Winter had finally arrived – but so far, only the calendar said so. Outside, there wasn't much sign of it yet. Every morning, Elizabeth looked out of her window hoping the world would have turned white.
“Daddy, Mummy, when will it snow? I can't wait to build a snowman! Mrs White promised us that we'll go outside when it does and everyone can build their very own snowman!” she said, jumping up and down with excitement.
A few days later, the snow finally came. When Elizabeth got up in the morning and went to peek through the gap in the curtains before getting dressed, she leapt so high that she nearly hit her head on the ceiling.
“Quick, look outside! It's snowing!” she squealed. Her father helped her get dressed quickly, and as soon as she had finished her breakfast she ran out into the front garden to make the most of the soft, white flakes. She caught them in her gloves and on her cheeks, and danced around, laughing as the snow flurried. All of the way to nursery school she carried on chatting about the fabulous snowman she was going to build.
“And Mummy,” she said, “we can build another one when I get home from nursery, can't we?”
“Of course we can,” her mother replied with a smile, giving her a hug. “Have a lovely day, Elizabeth. We're looking forward to hearing all about it this afternoon.”
Mrs White welcomed the children with a warm smile: “It looks like the snow monsters have been having quite a party! I think we'll be able to build some snowmen, don’t you?”
