Evie is sad because she has to wear glasses. What bothers her most is that her friends might make fun of her. Out of fear, she decides to hide her glasses and every morning, after saying goodbye to her mother, she secretly takes them off so that no one can see them. But how will this little secret turn out?
Evie went with her mother away from the doctors and cried. She wasn't in any pain, she wasn't sick and she hadn't even had an injection. She just had a regular check-up, during which the doctor found out that Evie would need glasses. She couldn't see well into the distance.
Evie had really noticed recently that her sight was a bit blurry. When they went to see a puppet show, she couldn't recognise the puppets well. And then when she was standing at the bus stop with her mother, she wasn't sure if it was their bus coming or a different one. But even now she was overcome by sadness and especially fear. She said to herself:
“What if the glasses don’t suit me? What if Tony stops being friends with me? What if he stops drawing pictures for me? And what will I do when I ride a bike or play on the playground? Won't my glasses get in the way?” Evie had a lot of thoughts running through her head and she cried and cried.
When she came home, mom took her on her lap and said: “Evie, don’t worry. You will see that you'll look as beautiful with glasses as you do now! They even say that people with glasses look smarter.”
But it didn’t calm Evie down much. Glasses became so scary for her, and she didn't even have them yet.
It wasn’t long before her mother took Evie to a store called Eye Optic. In the window they had all kinds of glasses: big, small, coloured, for children. Her mother was happy, but Evie became sad and her heart sank. She didn’t want any glasses!
