Early one evening, a group of black ants returned home to their anthill. They'd had a busy day, full of carrying twigs and needles here and there. And that's why they were looking forward to lying down in their beds and getting a good night's sleep.
Suddenly, however, one of them saw a large, juicy raspberry lying under an old oak tree. So he told his friends to go get it with him. The queen would certainly thank them for such a gift! However, as soon as they'd set up around the raspberry to pick it up and take it away, they heard marching from the oak tree. An army of red ants was approaching!
It is well known that black ants and red ants have never been friends. The black ants do honest work, building their anthill and feeding their queen. But the red ants are known as forest bandits.
Although black ants are normally peaceful creatures, they fought bravely. The red ants outnumbered them, but they didn't work as a team in the fight, so in the end the black ants won.
They balanced the raspberry on their shoulders and ran quickly, so that the bandits wouldn't have the chance to pounce on them again. The heroes were duly rewarded for their gift in the anthill, and after a good dinner they finally went to bed.
But that night a strong storm swept through the forest. The wind howled through the trees, and heavy rains destroyed much of the anthill. The black ants had barely slept, and they had to get up again and get to work. They laid the twigs carefully one after another to repair their anthill.
